Akrotiri Santorini Greece
The village of Akrotiri, which was originally a Minoan settlement, is situated right next to the famous Red Beach. Akrotiri is a very interesting village, and one that every visitor to Santorini should try and visit.
You can enjoy a walk around the winding stone streets, passing by a variety of houses, with colourful gardens, and interesting architecture. Akrotiri has many impressive looking two and three storey buildings.
In Akrotiri you will find two churches – Aghia Triada and Ipapandi tou Sotiros. Akrotiri is a village whose beauty and charm has been known throughout history. There are many beautiful paintings of ancient Akrotiri in the Archaelogical Museum of Athens.
You can find a number of tavernas, restaurants and hotels in Akrotiri and several of them are built inside an alcove in the traditional style.
The entire area of Akrotiri has been very well preserved due to the volcanic soil found here. The archarological site of Akrotiri is a place of immense interest and is a place well worth visiting. There is a small harbour in Akrotiri and from here you can take tours of the caldera and the volcanic islands.
