Emporio Santorini Greece
The traditional village Emporio is located on the south of Santorini and is approximately 8km from the capital town of Fira. The village of Emborio has a vast number of vineyards, creating a very rich and impressive landscape.
On the hillside on the east of Emborio is a hill with a string of old windmills. From here you can enjoy some beautiful panoramic views of Emborio, as well as out over the blue waters of the Aegean.
At the top of the hill there you can also find the remains of a fortified medieval castle that was originally built by the Venetians. In the centre of the village there are two blue domed churches, one of which is named Palia Panagia and is one of the oldest churches on the island. This church attracts many visitors all year round.
The popular beach of Perissa is situaed on the east of the village. There are a few large supermarkets, hotels and restaurants in Emporio.
The village is one where you can find some very impressive and unique architecture, including a number of cave houses. The town of Emborio is well worth visiting, and also makes an ideal base from which you can venture out and explore others parts of the island.
