Oia Santorini Greece
The town of Oia ( pronounced Ia ) is located at the northern part of Santorini, 11km north west of Fira. It is one of the most beautiful and famous villages in Santorini, and is home to what many consider the best sunset on the island.
The geographic position of Oia mean that sunsets here are unlike anywhere else on Santorini, where you can enjoy the beautiful panoramic views of the town, as well as the volcano and the neighbouring island of Thirassia.
The winding streets of Oia cry out to be explored, and here you will come across a huge selection of shops, jewellery boutiques, cafes, restaurants and tavernas.
Oia has many Greek art galleries, a cultural centre and the Oia Maritime Museum, all of which are well worth visiting if you have the opportunity.
At the foot of Oia is the small port of Ammoudi. You can reach the port by foot down the 300 or so steps that lead to and from the waters. You can also reach the Armenis beach. From this port you can catch small boats that take you to the island of Thirassia, as well as on tours of the volcano.
Oia has a wonderful selection of accommodation ranging from hotels and apartments to villas and private houses. The entire area is one of immense beauty and charm, and is a place that every one who travels to Santorini should visit.
